One should be careful on what they do to others.
In this book the Erudite tries to brainwash the Dauntless so they can overthrow the Abnegation government. But the Erudite don't know that someone who was Divergent couldn't get brainwashed. It just so happens that the main character Beatrice is Divergent so she can help the Erudite out and not get overthrown by the brainwashed Dauntless and Abnegation.
